Training and Education for Child Care Professionals

Knowing how children develop is essential in preparing developmentally stimulating art activities. This course is an introduction to art therapy and the emotional expression of creating and teaching art according to a child's  specific developmental stage. Examine the different types of activities and mediums to plan engaging art and play experiences.

Also presented are definitions of multiple terms around development and developmental stages, and methods of recognizing developmental differences among typically developing children as well as ways to consider if an art activity meets a child’s developmental stage.

The importance of art as play and why play is the optimal mode for learning and supporting children’s development and strategies to plan engaging experiences are explained.
